MASSACHUSETTS — One person was hospitalized after a small plane crashed down in the water near New Salem this past weekend.

Meanwhile, five people were injured after a car careened off the highway and into the woods in Milton.

Small Plane Crashes Near New Salem With 1 On Board

State police and fire crews responded to the scene at O’Laughlin Pond north of the Quabbin Reservoir near Route 122 at approximately 8 p.m. The only person on board of the plane was reportedly stranded in the water. Police used a flotation device and tether line to reach the man, and he was immediately transported to the hospital via helicopter.

5 Injured As Car Careens Into Woods Off I-93 in Milton

State police responded to the scene on the northbound side of Interstate Route 93 at approximately 3 a.m. At least one of the five injured occupants of the single-car crash was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. State police detectives, crash reconstruction specialists and crime scene services are investigating the incident.

Huge Scratch-Off Winner Sold At Wakefield Store

A $20,000 winning ticket in the “Billion Dollar Extravaganza” scratch game was sold late last week at McGill’s Deli in Wakefield. The Billion Dollar Extravaganza scratch ticket is one of the Massachusetts State Lottery’s high-value instant games, offering multiple prize tiers. Retailers that sell winning tickets typically receive a bonus from the Lottery.

AccuWeather said the developing climate pattern is expected to bring building heat, rounds of severe weather, and shifting regional patterns across the country. Boston is expected to see more 90-degree days than normal. The city averages 15 90+-degree days in a typical summer, with AccuWeather predicting up to 20 this year. Last summer had 19 90 plus degree days. The emerging El Niño may also influence the Atlantic hurricane season, which is expected to be near or slightly below average overall due to wind patterns that can disrupt storm formation. AccuWeather meteorologists say the evolving pattern will become more influential as summer progresses, meaning conditions later in the season could look markedly different from early summer.

South Shore Woman Charged With OUI After Curb-Jumping Crash On Cape

25-year-old Samantha Holton of Plymouth was arrested on charges that include operating under the influence of alcohol after a collision that sent Holton’s SUV into a U.S. Route 6 guardrail. She was also charged with negligent operation of a motor vehicle, violating marked lanes of traffic, and possessing an open container of alcohol in a vehicle. According to police, this marks Holton’s second OUI charge.
