Amtrak Train Carrying 113 Passengers Derails In Northfield
The engine slid off a frozen track switch, the fire chief said.
NORTHFIELD, MA — An Amtrak train carrying 113 passengers derailed in Northfield Tuesday.
The engine slid off a frozen track switch, said Northfield Fire Chief Floyd M. "Skip" Dunnell.
Dunnell called the mishap a "low-speed derailment" and said none of the passengers or train crew were injured.

There were no engine fluid leaks or HazMat issues either, the chief said,
Firefighters were standing by while passengers waited for buses to ferry them from the train to shelter, Dunnell said.

Firefighters were also putting up lights as darkness will have fallen before the buses arrive, he said.
