MASSACHUSETTS — From large-scale layoffs at a research company to a fast-growing fitness chain expanding its footprint in the Bay State, it's been a busy week in Massachusetts business news.

Massachusetts-based gene research company implements large-scale layoffs

Therapeutics company Tessera Therapeutics is slated to lay off 90 employees, according to a report from Boston Business Journal. The company is headquartered at 101 South St. in Somerville.

The workforce reduction will take effect on Sunday, March 8.

Fast-growing fitness chain opens another Massachusetts locations

btone Fitness opened another location at 158 Broadway in East Somerville.

The company has 30 locations across the country, with the majority in Massachusetts.

Cheese sold in Massachusetts recalled over listeria

Certain brands of Pecorino Romano cheese sold in Massachusetts may be contaminated with Listeria, the Food and Drug Administration said in a recent recall update.

The FDA upgraded the November recall to a Class I, the highest risk category. The products have expiration dates well into 2026 and may still be in people’s refrigerators.

Verizon is offering credits after a major outage in Massachusetts

Verizon said it plans to “make it right” for millions of customers, including many in Massachusetts, who were unable to use their phones for most of the day due to a massive outage on Wednesday.

The company said in a statement that customers affected by the outage will get a credit on their bills. “Details will be shared directly with customers,” Verizon said. “We sincerely apologize for the disruption.”
