Acton-Boxborough vs. Natick Sunday on WGBH's High School Quiz Show (Update)
Tune in Sunday evening to see A-B students compete against Natick in the second season of the public television program.
Some kids play or join the ; some create a . There are some students, though, who join after school activities that involve extensive studying for a chance to compete on television.
All Acton can watch them do that Sunday night at 7:00pm: five seniors and one junior from competing against Natick High School on WGBH’s High School Quiz Show.
Meet Darcy Ahern, Roopa Balachandar, Jacob Gold, John Russell, Alex Cates and Brett Olson from Acton-Boxborough Regional High School. This small group of six was chosen to represent the school in season two of WGBH’s High School Quiz Show. Each student was selected for excellence in certain subject material.

“Preparing for the event, the students each identified their areas of strength and would develop material that they would share with the rest of the group,” said Kay Steeves, one of the coaches of the team and a student-faculty support coordinator at the school. “We had a geography whiz and a Shakespeare whiz and somebody who knew a lot about chemistry and somebody who took physics – and they brought basic facts and questions to the rest of the group for practice.”
The show was recorded in front of a live studio audience last Saturday at the WBGH Studios in Boston. Billy Costa, from radio station KISS 108 FM, hosted the show. The game is broken up into four rounds of trivia, where members from each team hit a buzzer to answer the question.

Everyone involved was asked to keep secret which team won.
If Acton-Boxborough turns out to have won against Natick High School, they will move forward to the second round. WGBH created a competition bracket, as if it were March Madness. Click here for the bracket of teams.
The show will air tonight, Sunday, at 7:00pm on WGBH channel 2.
“These are kids who chose this as an after-school activity,” said Steeves. “For these kids, trivia is a fun thing for them.”
