Bring your kids to the Science Discovery Museum for Smart Hats: Betsey Metcalf and Mary Kies. In honor of Betsey Metcalf, who revolutionized New England’s economy with a straw hat she made at the age of 12 in 1798, and Mary Kies, the first woman issued a U.S. Patent in 1809 for her technique for making straw hats, they can decorate their own straw hat and listen to a reading of Grandma Florida and the Big Straw Hat by Elizabeth Fulton.
Museum day passes are $10.50 for adults and children and $9.50 for seniors. Yearly memberships are also available. For more information, contact the museum at 978-264-4200.
