Update: Aliens Still Among Us
TNT show Falling Skies remains in "Acton" for summer, possibly beyond.

Between murderous aliens roaming about and the human rebels fighting them, Acton was a hotbed of highly unusual activity this summer.
TNT’s hit show Falling Skies , following the survival efforts of former Boston University history professor Tom Mason (played by Noah Wyle) as he becomes the second in command of the Second Massachusetts Militia Regiment, a group of civilians and fighters fleeing the Boston area after a worldwide alien invasion and ensuing human massacre.
And as the series progressed, with the season finale showing tonight, survivors have shown no sign of leaving “Acton,” particularly the fictitious John F. Kennedy High School, where they’ve set up a medical center, school and base for their retrieval efforts of children stolen and “harnessed” by the spider-like aliens, called skitters.

Though actually filmed in Toronto, the show incorporates many local touches, particularly characters’ references to nearby towns like Littleton and Sudbury. While no show can catch everything—no one checked with true locals about the way most New Englanders pronounce the word ‘aunt,’ for example—careful viewers will also notice Boston Herald trucks in the background in certain Boston-area scenes, and an authentic-looking Littleton/Acton town line sign as one youngster flees through the woods.
Overall, while the show limped a bit mid-season, recent episodes have picked up steam as the survivors have made some unsettling discoveries about the invaders. No spoilers here, though—you can catch the series in its entirety all day today on TNT, starting at 1 p.m. and culminating in the season finale at 9 p.m. Only then will we know if they’re planning on staying in Acton for good.
