Bergeron Sees a Bright Future for Andover Athletics

After four years as Andover High School’s Athletic Director Christopher Bergeron has resigned.

Bergeron’s legacy featured triumphant athletic highs as well as a major low last winter when members of the boys basketball team were involved in a at Stonehill College.

“It’s very bittersweet because I love Andover, I love the coaches, I love the program, and the student athletes,” Bergeron said.

Bergeron cited “Walking on the Garden floor with the girls basketball team,” as one of many favorite memories in his four years with Andover. Andover High produced one of the state’s top basketball dynasties in history throughout the last three years.

He also commented on the hazing scandal’s effect on the program, “We’ve done a lot of reflection since dealing with the incident we dealt with over the winter and I think the program is heading in a great direction.”

Bergeron will be moving to South Carolina to join a large portion of his family. “It’s a family decision,” he said.

“My wife and I have been talking about moving down there for five or six years now,” he continued. “We’ve had those conversations each year; the stars kind of aligned this time around.”

Bergeron intends to stay in the same line of work. “There are a couple of high school positions open that I’ve applied for,” he said. “I’ve also applied for some college jobs to stay in the field of athletics.”

As far as the Warriors go, Bergeron sees a bright future for the program he’ll be leaving behind.

“The program is in great shape as far as I’m concerned,” he said. “The coaching staff is unbelievable and the community support is great.”

Since joining the team at Andover High School four years ago, the Warriors have earned plenty of hardware. The girls basketball team has won three consecutive state titles under head coach Jim Tildsley and superstar forward .

The field hockey team is a two-time reigning state champion under head coach Maureen Noone.

“I think the program is in a great position to positively affect student athletes,” said Bergeron. 

Prior to becoming Athletic Director for Andover High, Bergeron served as the Athletic Director at Salem High School in Salem, NH. He earned his undergraduate degree at the University of Richmond and his Master’s from the University of New Hampshire.
