ANDOVER, MA — The Andover School Committee began the search process for new interim and permanent superintendents, Tuesday, in anticipation of superintendent Sheldon Berman's departure at the end of December.

The Committee voted unanimously to request formal proposals from headhunting firms and consultants, for filling the permanent position. They also voted to begin the shorter search for an interim superintendent, to fill the role from January to June, 2021.

The Committee announced Thursday that Berman has resigned and will remain with the district only through the end of 2020. He cited his wife getting a new job in the Pacific Northwest, where he was a superintendent before coming to Andover.

“Tonight’s votes are the first steps toward the Committee’s goal of providing a seamless transition of leadership for our staff, students and community,” said School Committee Chairperson Shannon Scully.

The Committee will begin reviewing applications in early November and begin interviews soon after. They do not plan to consider the interim superintendent for the permanent position.
