Computer hard drives will be destroyed during the recycling process, but can be removed on-site at the event for an additional charge. Cash payment is preferred, but checks will be an acceptable form of payments over $30.

The 13th Annual Step Up for Colleen 5K, in memory of beloved teacher <a href="https://colleenritzer.org/colleen/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Colleen Ritzer</a>, will be held on Sunday, May 3rd in Andover’s Central Park. 
<a href="https://www.bostonanthemsinger.com/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Todd Angilly</a>, who sings at each Boston Bruins home game, will sing the national anthem from the park’s gazebo during the 8:45 a.m. opening ceremony. The 5K walk/run begins at 9:00.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the Colleen E. Ritzer Memorial Fund, which fosters a society of compassion with kindness as a motivating influence in all its endeavors. Renowned for her kindness, zeal for life, teaching, and love of family, the organization emulates Colleen’s compassion through scholarships, grants and other programs with kindness and education at their core. 
Each year, the Step Up for Colleen draws walkers and runners of all ages to the USA Track &amp; Field certified course. Most wear pink, which was Colleen’s favorite color.
“Every May, seeing our community come together in Colleen’s honor is both humbling and uplifting,” said the Ritzer family. “The energy, love, and shared commitment to kindness remind us that Colleen’s spirit continues to impact our community in so many powerful ways. We are deeply grateful to every participant, volunteer, and supporter who keeps her legacy alive by choosing compassion and positivity each day.”
This year’s event emcees will be Magic 106.7 radio personalities Sue Tabb and Kendra Petrone. The post-race festivities will feature music, refreshments, a beer garden, Boston sports mascots, a balloon artist, face-painting, a magician, friendship bracelet making, and much more. An awards ceremony will be held at 10:30.

The first 3,000 people to register are guaranteed an official 2026 race shirt, and everyone on each team of 10 or more people will receive a special gift. Since its inception in 2014, $677,000 in scholarships have been awarded to 128 future teachers and leaders, some of whom have already begun their teaching careers and are pursuing master’s degrees.
About Colleen Ritzer
Colleen Ritzer, a lifelong resident of Andover, passed away on October 22, 2013. She was a 2007 graduate of Andover High School and a 2011 graduate of Assumption College. Colleen was a math teacher at Danvers High School and was pursuing a graduate degree at Salem State College. She adored spending time with her family and friends, and was an amazing daughter and big sister to her brother and sister, Daniel and Laura. She made a lasting impression on everyone she met. From a young age, Colleen knew she wanted to be a teacher and worked diligently to achieve her goal. Even though teaching was her profession, it was also one of her favorite hobbies and her passion. She spent countless hours finding unique and creative ways to inspire and teach her students.

Andover Choral Society directed by Matthew Buono and New England Classical Singers directed by David Hodgkins&nbsp;present "Songs of Freedom", a musical celebration of our nation's 250th Anniversary. The concert offers an exploration of choral music created at pivotal times in American history, from the 1700s to the 21st&nbsp;century. Themes of peace, conflict, gallantry, pioneering, and enduring hope resonate throughout this program – all presented by two of the Merrimack Valley’s most beloved choral groups. This special performance features a guest appearance by The Danvers Alarm List Company, an 18th-century living history reenactment group, creating a unique patriotic experience.&nbsp;Tickets are $25 in advance, $30 at the door, and $10 for students. Andover Choral Society & New England Classical Singers Spring Concert

At the Andover Garden Club’s May 5 meeting, flower designer Gail Hubacker will create several floral arrangements—some incorporating found objects—assisted by fellow garden-club member, Diane Cochran. At the conclusion of the demonstration, some arrangements will be auctioned off.
About the Presenter
Always enamored with flowers, Gail Hubacker began her career in flower arranging when she joined The Needham Garden Club in 1978. Among other positions in the club, she served as Flower Arranging Chair and President.
To further her design skills, she pursued the Flower Show School offered by the Garden Club Federation of Massachusetts (GCFM), thereafter proceeding through the ranks until becoming a Master Judge. Throughout the ensuing years, she has both entered and judged shows and enhanced her learning by participating in symposia. She worked on, and chaired, the Boston Flower Show when it was held at Commonwealth Pier and Bayside Expo Center.
After moving to The Cape in 2010, she joined the Garden Club of Hyannis and assumed some of the same roles she had held in the Needham Garden Club. She has represented both clubs at the Museum of Fine Arts Art In Bloom. She currently serves on the GCFM Board as Flower Show Awards Chair. She is a member of the Southeastern District Design and Horticulture Study Group.
When, Where, and How
The event will be held at South Church (41 Central Street, Andover MA) on Tuesday, May 5, 2026. It will begin at 10:00 AM with social time and refreshments, followed by a brief business meeting. The presentation will start at approximately 11:00 AM.
The public is encouraged to take advantage of this program. A $10 donation is requested of nonmembers. Guests should mention if they are a member of another garden club.

Founded in 1927, the Andover Garden Club (www.andovergardenclub.org) is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that encourages the study and practice of horticulture, landscape design, and floral design; aids in the beautification of the town of Andover; and helps protect and conserve natural resources. A member of the Garden Club Federation of Massachusetts, Inc., and National Garden Clubs, Inc., the club provides both financial and hands-on support to a variety of municipal, educational, and environmental organizations throughout the region.
