Presented by Joan Patrakis. Since the signing of the Dec-laration of Independence, Andover residents have observed the Fourth of July in a variety of ways. Early events were somber affairs held in the churches. In the 1800s neighborhood gatherings and Sunday School picnics were common. In the 1850s a more festive tone was adopted and intro-duced the Antiques and Horribles parade. Learn what this tradition represents and find out when and where it was first introduced in Andover.
