Andover Police Called To Calm Out-Of-Control Meetings

Police responded to intervene at separate incidents at Thursday night's school committee and zoning board of appeals meeting.

ANDOVER, MA -- The Eagle-Tribune is reporting that Andover Police were called to Thursday night's school committee meeting as well as a meeting of the town's Zoning Board of Appeals when a participants got testy. At the school committee meeting, three people to leave. All three were calling for Superintendent Sheldon Berman to resign.

The people who were asked to leave were calling on Berman to resign after he mistakenly released a confidential memo outlining an investigation and disciplinary action regarding boys volleyball coach E.J. Perry. Police were on hand from the start of the meeting and School Committee Chairwoman Susan McCready warned participants that she would not tolerate attacks on individual school department employees. Police escorted one of the three people who called for Berman's resignation from the meeting.

Lt. Edward Guy told the newspaper that several neighbors opposing a special permit application by American Towers to erect a cell phone tower at 212 Andover Street "were very outspoken" at the ZBA meeting. The meeting adjourned shortly after police arrived, and the board denied the special permit application. No arrests were made.
