Saturday Night Lights Flag Football League

Coed Saturday Night Lights Flag Football League for grades K-3. Residents and non-residents welcome!

Overview

Boys and Girls

Grades K-3

This co-ed recreational flag football league is open to children who wish to learn fundamentals, skills, and enjoyment of football without the contact. This fun, recreational program is open to all skill levels and will enhance understanding, build on skill work, work on positioning, specific ball handling, passing & receiving, running, and emphasize FUN!

Children will be placed on teams based on age with grades K-1 and grades 2-3 playing together. Each team will meet once a week on Saturdays at Recreation Park and partake in a team practice immediately followed by a game. Games will begin Saturday, September 20 and run for seven weeks. This program will run over Columbus Day Weekend.

Team Selection

To achieve balanced competition DCS will place athletes on teams. Unfortunately, DCS will not honor requests for this program(siblings will be placed together if they are in appropriate age group).

Equipment

All registered participants will receive an official Under Armour t-shirt and a mouth guard to keep. Mouth guards are mandatory. Cleats or sneakers with good traction are recommended, but not required. Flags will be provided.

Fees

Regular Fee: $150

Fee includes jersey, mouth guard, supervisors, equipment, officials, and field usage.

Non-residents will be charged an additional $10 per DCS policy.

Late Registration

Registrations received after August 31 will include a $30 late fee as shown in the fee schedule above. Late registration will only be accepted until September 10. After September 10, please place child on waiting list and we will contact you if space is available.

Games held between 3:30-5:30 pm

#615 Grades 2 & 3

Games held between 5:30-7:30 pm

Schedules for the season will be emailed out on Wednesday, September 17th.

SNL Staff

SNL co-founder Jim Murphy was a Hall of Fame Quarterback at Reading High School and Northeastern University. A four-year starter at Northeastern, Murphy set career passing records for completions, yards and touchdown passes. Murphy received the Harry Agganis Award for New England’s Most Outstanding Division I Football Player in 1997. After college, Jim spent two seasons as a member of the New England Patriots (1998 & 1999). After his playing days were over, Jim turned to coaching. Murphy was the Head Football Coach at Merrimack College from 2003-2007 where he led Merrimack to its first ever NE-10 Conference Championship. Murphy received the NE-10 and New England Sports Writers Division II College Coach of the Year in 2006. Jim retired from college coaching in 2007 to focus on the development of youth football players including his two sons, James (9) and Jack (7) who participate in SNL Flag Football.


Coaches Needed

If you would like to be a head coach for the Flag Football season please answer “Yes” in the registration question area and add your name and phone number in the notes section. No experience necessary. There will be a coaches meeting on Tuesday, September 16th run by the SNL staff to go over rules for practices & games and distribute playbooks.

Officials

Interested in making some extra money? DCS is looking for students, age 16 & older, who would like to referee Saturday flag football games at Rec Park from 3:00-8:00 pm. If you are interested please contact Janice Coppolino.
