Timeless Tale, Disney Delights, and Filial Piety: ACT's Mulan Junior

Let the kids from ACT Theater Company take you back in time January 22 and 23, 2016. These talented kids have been working hard to bring to life the story of Hua Mulan, a Chinese hero who disguises herself as a man and takes her father’s place in the army to save his life. He is older and was wounded in the prior war, and she despairs of him coming home from this war alive, so she takes up his sword, dons his armor, and sets off to train for war. Her ancestors frown on this very nontraditional act, and send Mushu after her to persuade Mulan to come home and be a “proper girl” after all. During the training and battles that follow, Mulan learns courage in the face of adversity, and that sometimes the late bloom has a beauty all its own. Far from society’s expectations of girls as “a perfect bride or a perfect daughter”, Mulan learns who she truly is by disguising herself.
