Alleged Heroin Dealer Caught Again with Drugs

An Arlington business owner already facing time on charges of possession of heroin was once again caught carrying drugs in town, police said Tuesday.

Louis L. Gersh, 52, of Medford, was picked up by Arlington Police Saturday afternoon after a car stop on Lowell Street and Elder Terrace, when he allegedly failed to stop at a sign.

In July, police said Gersh was running an online auctioning business in Arlington where he sold mostly stolen items, from musical instruments to an old-looking Jewish scroll.

Arlington Police searched the business and said they found large quantities of drugs and stolen property.

Police on Saturday recognized Gersh from previous encounters with the law for possession of drugs, but this time they slapped the handcuffs on him for driving without a license.

Authorities say Gersh’s passenger was a woman also known by police for her drug habit. During the Saturday stop, the woman told police she “has a drug problem and is trying to get treatment.”

She admitted to shooting heroin earlier that day, though she had no drugs on her at the time of the stop, according to the police report. Cops confirmed that with a search of the woman, who was not identified on the incident report.

Once the two were out of the car, officers searched the vehicle and found about 100 small, plastic clear bags—just the type used to sell narcotics, police said.

Authorities took Gersh to the station for booking, where they found a half blue pill later identified as Viagra. The suspect did not have a prescription for the drug.

He was charged with possession of a Class E drug and operating with a suspended license. He was cited for failure to stop at a sign.

Police also found an “assortment of jewelry” in the car, according to the police report. Officers were unable to determine the value of the items. They took it all to the station.

There were no other drugs in the vehicle, according to the report.

Last time, Gersh was arrested in Somerville for possession with intent to distribute heroin within a school zone. Police there said he was arrested as part of an investigation involving multiple law enforcement agencies.
