Today's riddle: What did one wall say to the other? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Arlington Adds Accessible Parking At Popular Park (patch.com) — Robbins Farm Park in Arlington now has two new accessible parking spaces on Eastern Avenue, improving access to its fully inclusive, universally designed playground. Funded partly by a state disability grant and local and federal sources, the project reflects a coordinated effort among Arlington's Disability Commission, DEI office, engineers, and recreation staff to better serve residents of all abilities.
2. Math pathway changes move forward despite lack of clear implementation timeline — Arlington School Committee, Jun 22, 2026 (meetingwatch.org) — Arlington families face upcoming changes to K–12 math pathways, but the School Committee has not yet set a clear implementation timeline, leaving many unsure how course access and structures will shift. At the June 22 meeting, members pressed for more detail while also approving a one-year contract extension for Deputy Superintendent Dr. Mona Ford Walker for the 2026–27 school year.
3. Select Board takes no action on MWRA plan despite resident sewage concerns — Arlington Select Board, Jul 27, 2026 (meetingwatch.org) — Arlington residents concerned about sewage in Alewife Brook saw the Select Board decline to take a formal stance on the MWRA's draft Combined Sewer Overflow plan, despite potential long-term costs and health risks for local ratepayers. Advocates pushed for more green infrastructure and stronger guarantees against sewage discharges, while the Board limited its response to technical questions as the public comment period continues through September.
4. Arlington lawmakers push Massachusetts bill to clear path for Red Line extension (newbedfordguide.com) — Arlington officials and legislators are pushing a home-rule-backed state bill to remove a 1980 legal barrier to extending the MBTA Red Line into town, aiming to ease traffic and support new housing. While no construction funding exists yet, lawmakers secured money for a feasibility study and are seeking broader reviews of Red Line or Bus Rapid Transit options that could reshape commuting for Arlington residents.
5. Volleyball Recap: Stoneham Gets Some Payback Against Arlington (maxpreps.com) — Arlington volleyball fans can celebrate a 3–1 win over Stoneham, evening the Spy Ponders' record at 2–2 and avenging last season's loss. The team now heads on the road to face a hot Reading Memorial squad on Tuesday evening, setting up an early-season test for Arlington's momentum.
