Come celebrate this important Museum milestone on Sunday, September 27, from noon to 3:30 pm, in Whittemore Park!
Whittemore Park is located in front of the Museum, 611 Mass Ave, at the corner of Mass Ave and Mystic Street in Arlington Center. Parking is available in the lot behind the museum, off Mystic Street.
This festive, free event highlights the official opening of the Museum’s newly redesigned Euro-American Figures Gallery and will also unveil three new artworks:
·Portrait relief honoring the Museum’s founder, James McGough, created by sculptor Robert Shure
·Plaster bust of Dallin’s granddaughter, Jean, donated by the Dallin family
·Bronze bust of Massasoit Ousamequin, cast from Dallin’s original full-length model
Guests can also enjoy live music by the Turkey Hill Ragtime Orchestra, performing tunes from Cyrus Dallin’s era, as well as docent-guided Museum tours.
About the Museum
Thirty years ago, Arlington Town Meeting voted to establish a museum dedicated to sharing the inspiring life and work of Cyrus Dallin. Since then, with the help of Arlington’s incredible community of supporters, the Museum has grown from a “hidden treasure” into a respected institution with an impact that extends far beyond the town.
The Museum is a hallmark to artist, educator, Indigenous rights advocate, and former Arlington resident, Cyrus Dallin. It contains the largest collection of Dallin’s art in the world, and is open for visits on Saturdays and Sundays, noon to 4 pm. Located on the ancestral land of the Massachusett Tribe, the museum pays its respects to their descendants who still inhabit this land today.
