Local Bakery Chain's 4th Location Launches In Arlington

The business specializes in traditional French breads and pastries, including baguettes, naturally leavened breads, croissants, and brioche.

ARLINGTON, MA — A French bakery has opened a new café in Arlington Center.

Colette Bakery officially opened its doors on Friday, Oct. 16, at 681 Massachusetts Ave., marking the business's fourth Boston-area location. The location has approximately 20 seats and offers customers a place to sit and have coffee, croissants, and other pastries in a French bakery-café setting. Ownership told Patch in August that the new location would launch in September, however the spot's first day was last week.

Customers are able to choose from the bakery's selection of artisan breads, viennoiseries, pastries, quiches, traditional Parisian sandwiches, and a wide selection of hot and cold beverages. Colette specializes in traditional French offerings, including baguettes, naturally leavened breads, croissants, brioche, éclairs, tarts, and kouign-amann.

The opening comes six years after Nathalie and Franck Beddiar established their first bakery at 509 Main St. in Medford in 2020. The couple moved from Toulouse, France, to the Boston area in 2017. The family-run business later expanded to 465 Main St. in Melrose in 2022 and 517 Columbus Ave. in Boston's South End.

The bakery uses French ingredients and traditional baking techniques. The couple's son, Valentin, serves as pastry chef, while their daughter, Clémentine, helps manage the business.

The Beddiar family has continued to expand its French culinary businesses beyond Colette. Nathalie and Franck opened Atelier Colette, a French chocolaterie on Beacon Hill, in 2023, offering chocolates made in-house, including bonbons, chocolate bars, and coated nuts.

The Arlington café occupies a storefront previously home to Symmes Mini-Mart. Its approximately 20 seats give customers the opportunity to stay and enjoy the café atmosphere.

Customers can visit the Arlington bakery Wednesday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The business is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
