Arlington Appoints New Senior Transportation Planner

This new leader comes with a lengthy resume of experience.

ARLINGTON, MA — The town has named a new Senior Transportation Planner to help lead transportation planning efforts across Arlington.

Elizabeth Maldari was appointed Arlington’s new Senior Transportation Planner and officially began in the role on Aug. 10. Maldari will coordinate transportation policy and planning efforts for the town, including the development and implementation of neighborhood-based and town-wide transportation plans. She will also serve as staff to the Transportation Advisory Committee and coordinate with other town departments, boards, and commissions on larger transportation projects.

Before joining the town, Maldari served as Senior Transportation Planner for the Merrimack Valley Planning Commission in Haverhill, where she managed an interregional Safe Streets and Roads for All grant to develop the Merrimack Valley Regional Vision Zero Plan. In that role, she also served as a liaison to the Merrimack Valley Transit Authority, coordinated public engagement for the Transportation Program, and supported municipal and regional grant applications across all 15 communities in the region.

“Arlington's commitment to sustainable transportation and Complete Streets is something I deeply appreciate as an Arlington resident, and I am eager to contribute to that work,” Maldari said in a statement. “I look forward to partnering with the Transportation Advisory Committee, Town staff, and the broader Arlington community to advance these initiatives.”

Director of Planning and Community Development Claire Ricker said Maldari brings a combination of technical expertise and community engagement skills that align with Arlington’s transportation goals. She said Maldari will contribute to the town’s ongoing work on Connect Arlington, Complete Streets, and multi-modal planning for residents of all ages and abilities.

Maldari holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Tufts University and a Master in Eco-Social Design from the Free University of Bolzano in Bolzano, Italy.

Arlington’s Department of Planning and Community Development oversees a variety of planning and community development efforts across the town, including implementation of the Arlington Comprehensive Plan and Connect Arlington. The department also provides staff support to several town boards and committees, including the Arlington Redevelopment Board, Affordable Housing Trust Fund, and Conservation Commission.
