Arlington Assistant Director Of Libraries Named

The new assistant director will begin her tenure next week.

ARLINGTON, MA – Arlington's new assistant director of libraries is a familiar face – Fox Branch librarian Anna Litten. Litten will begin her tenure as assistant director on Monday, July 9.

During her time at the Fox, Litten has successfully implemented Saturday services, managed a popular collection of materials for adults, teens and children, and forged strong ties with East Arlington residents and
businesses.

As assistant director, she looks forward to supporting library services on a higher level.

"I believe public libraries have an important role in the social, cultural, and economic development of a community, and I look forward to taking on the challenge of helping to plan and evaluate library services for all of Arlington," Litten said in a statement.

In Arlington, the assistant director works with the director of libraries to develop and work toward the library’s long-range goals. The assistant director manages the library’s outreach efforts and public relations, performs outreach to local businesses and community groups and represents the library at meetings of various Town boards and commissions.

The assistant director also coordinates cultural and educational events geared to adults, often in
partnership with community organizations.

Litten’s career in public libraries has spanned 20 years. She has worked in youth services at the Milton Public Library, outreach and technology education at the Wellesley Free Library, and community relations for the Morse Institute Library in Natick. She graduated with a B.A. in history from Grinnell College, and earned her Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from Simmons College.

“In Anna’s work at Fox Library and in various committees, I’ve seen her extraordinary
communication skills and her ability to motivate and lead," Director of Libraries Andrea Nicolay said in a statement. "We’re very lucky to have her."
