Arlington Awarded $400k Grant for Gray Street Improvements
Work is set to focus special attention on the Quincy Street intersection, which is heavily used by Ottoson students.
ARLINGTON, MA— Gray Street is set for a makeover in the next year, as the Town of Arlington has received a Massachusetts Department of Transportation grant for street improvements, according to a town announcement. The town received a $400,000 grant from MassDOT under the "Complete Streets" program.
According to the announcement, the funds will be used to build new sidewalks improve existing sidewalks, install curb ramps and other pedestrian improvements. Work is set to take place on Gray Street between Oakland and Lockeland Avenues, with special attention paid to the Quincy Street intersection heavily used by Ottoson Middle School students.
“We are thrilled to receive this news from MassDOT to move forward critical pedestrian improvements on Gray Street and to successfully implement the Town’s Complete Streets policy and program,” said Arlington Town Manager Adam Chapdelaine in a press release.

The grant comes on the heels of the Board of Selectmen's approval of the Complete Streets policy, which pledges to consider all users equally in road and sidewalk design. The goal of the policy and the program is to reduce traffic congestion.
The adoption of the Board of Selectmen's policy was a pre-requisite for the grants.
