A black bear roamed the streets of Arlington before going up a tree in someone's backyard Friday.

ARLINGTON, MA — A black bear climbed down from a tree in an Arlington resident's backyard Friday after being hit with a tranquilizer dart. At about 10 a.m., the bear went up a tree in the behind a Pawnee Drive residence after being spotted roaming the streets of Arlington. Wildlife officials shot it with a tranquilizer dart at about 10:30 a.m. and were waiting to catch the animal before it climbed down on its own.
The bear fell asleep and was placed in a MassWildlife truck, according to WCVB. Police warned residents to keep pets inside and avoid the area of Washington and Overlook.
Black bears are generally shy and are attracted to bird seed in yard, trash, urban chicken coops and beehives.
