Arlington Center Safe Travel Project Information Session Scheduled for Wednesday

ARLINGTON, MA—The Arlington Center Safe Travel Project is set to begin April 1, according to a town announcement Tuesday.

Work on the Massachusetts Department of Transportation project will begin on April 1, and is set to last for one construction season. The town has also scheduled a public information session on Mar. 23 to review the project with town officials.

The session will run from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Arlington Town Hall Auditorium. 

The goal of the project is to create a safe connection for the minuteman bikeway through Arlington Center, improve roadway safety and mobility and upgrade the infrastructure of the area, according to the town's announcement.

According to the announcement, here's what residents can expect during the project:

- Mass. Ave. and all side streets will remain open to traffic at all times during construction.
- Reasonable access will be maintained for pedestrians, cyclists, and vehicles through the project area and to abutting properties.
- The Contractor will provide written notice to all abutters one week in advance of any sidewalk reconstruction work and provide safe access to abutting properties during construction.
- Throughout the construction process, MassDOT will have a Resident Engineer on site to oversee construction.
- The Town will work with the MassDOT Resident Engineer and the contractor to set up a process for distributing information to residents and businesses, and addressing concerns.

The boundaries of the project on Massachusetts Ave. will be from Water St. to Medford street; on Pleasant St. at Massachusetts Ave. intersection; and on Mystic St. from Massachusetts Ave. to Chestnut St.
