Arlington Chief Named To State Commission On Substance Abuse

Chief Frederick Ryan joined the state's newly formed Harm Reduction Commission.

ARLINGTON, MA – Arlington Police Chief Frederick Ryan has been named to the state's Harm Reduction Commission, the department announced Tuesday. The commission, created in August, is tasked with reviewing and making recommendations to address substance use disorders.

It is comprised of the Secretary of Health and Human Services, who chairs the commission, and a panel of policymakers, public health professionals, legal experts, clinicians and residents.

"I’m looking forward to working with the commission to continue the important work being done throughout the commonwealth to curtail substance use and addiction," Ryan said in a statement. "We’re continuing to make great strides in addressing the addiction crisis here in Massachusetts, and I’m confident that this group will enhance and build upon that effort."
