Arlington Community Education Fall Registration Now Open

Arlington Community Education (ACE) Fall registration is now open. Catalogs have been mailed to Arlington addresses, featuring hundreds of classes for adults, youth, and families. It is also viewable online at ArlingtonCommunityEd.org. Classes begin the week of September 20.

FOR ADULTS
ACE is offering a full roster of nearly 250 adult classes this fall, with a mix of in-person, outdoor, and online options designed to fit a range of comfort levels. Indoor classes will take place in ventilated spaces at both Arlington High School and Gibbs School in the evenings, as well as at various locations around town during the day. There are many returning favorites, as well as 56 new adult classes. Categories include: Career, Technology, & Finance; Fine Arts & Crafts; Fitness & Dance; Food & Drink; Home & Garden; Languages; Music & Theater; Recreation & Travel; Special Interest; Walking Tours; Wellness: and Writing & Literature.

FOR YOUTH
ACE Kids are held after school at all Arlington Public School campuses and run once a week for 60-90 minutes for 5-10 weeks. Offerings include arts & crafts, cooking, games & fantasy, fitness & dance, languages, life skills, music & theater, and STEM. New classes include Fiber Arts Exploration, Printmaking, FunDrumz, Activists for Racial Justice, Bike Safety, and Stykz Animation. There will also be some evening offerings such as chess, drumming and Parkour. For high school students, there are Driver’s Ed and College Prep classes.

FOR FAMILIES
There are nearly 20 family classes for adults and children to enjoy together. Learn Spanish as a family, become card trick experts, dye a shibori apron, craft pop-up cards, learn the basics of glass fusing, or make critters out of clay. Assemble and decorate a gingerbread house or decorate cupcakes with animals you make out of fondant. New this term, take a tour of the Lyman Estate together or learn circus tricks. Gain knife skills as you assemble poke bowls, make meatballs, explore African cooking, or cook around the world together with a three-session mini series.

COVER ART
This term’s catalog features artwork by Cover Art Contest winner Ngoc-Tran Vu. Tran is a 1.5-generation Vietnamese-American interdisciplinary artist based in Dorchester whose socially-engaged work evokes discourse of familial ties and memories amongst themes of social justice and intersectionality. She is driven to co-create, support, and protect the stories and experiences of communities of color, refugees, and immigrants. Tran’s painting “Women of Color” portrays the complexities of Asian women, Vietnamese girls, and women of color, through shapes, colors, and spacing. “The ACE staff loves the vibrant colors and the symbolism of Tran’s painting,” said ACE Director Jen Rothenberg. “We chose her work because of her powerful message of the importance of bringing people together and honoring women of color.”

Many classes fill quickly and under-enrolled classes are cancelled, so be sure to reserve your spot early.
