Arlington Community Education winter registration opens Dec. 1

Arlington Community Education (ACE) Winter 2022 registration opens Wednesday, December 1 at noon. Catalogs are on their way to Arlington addresses, featuring hundreds of classes for adults, kids, and families. It is also viewable online at ArlingtonCommunityEd.org. Classes begin the week of January 18.

FOR ADULTS
ACE is offering a full roster of nearly 200 adult classes this winter, with a mix of in-person, outdoor, and online options. Indoor classes will take place in ventilated spaces at Gibbs School in the evenings, as well as at various locations around town during the day. There are many returning favorites, as well as 55 new adult classes. Categories include: Career, Technology, & Finance; Fine Arts & Crafts; Fitness & Dance; Food & Drink; Home & Garden; Languages; Music & Theater; Recreation & Travel; Special Interest; Walking Tours; Wellness & Life; and Writing & Literature.

FOR YOUTH
ACE Kids classes are held after school at all Arlington Public School campuses and run once a week for 60-90 minutes for 5-10 weeks. Offerings include arts & crafts, cooking, games & fantasy, fitness, languages, life skills, music & theater, and STEM. New classes include Crafting is Cool, Exploring Watercolor, Imaginative Illustration, Jewelry Making, Mini Masterpieces, Kids Newsroom, LEGO® Adventures, and LEGO® Junior Engineers. There are several evening offerings including drumming, ukulele, and parkour. For high school students, Driver’s Ed and College Prep classes are available.

FOR FAMILIES
There are nearly a dozen family classes for adults and children to enjoy together. New this term, learn rules, positional tactics, and basic to more advanced moves to become Chess Wizards, or cook pillowy authentic Italian gnocchi at home. Fill and wrap dumplings in time for Chinese New Year, prepare brunch foods to share with friends and family, create professional-looking Valentine’s cookies, or use edible paints to decorate cookies. Learn card or circus tricks, make critters out of clay, discover the basics of glass fusing, or create mini mosaics to set inside deep pendants at Mosaic Jewelry Workshop.

COVER ART
This term’s catalog features artwork by Cover Art Contest winner Jasmine Milton, a visual artist based in Boston who specializes in paintings, public art murals, and mixed media works. She believes that art brings awareness to problems of social justice, inequity, and racism in America. These paintings, Trinity, Will, Trey, and Jasmine: A Self Portrait, are a series of abstract portraits, combining complementary and analogous colors of varying brightness levels that evoke different emotional responses in the viewer. Jasmine uses concepts from color theory to portray tone and stimulate healing within herself and her community. See more of Jasmine’s work at justjasminecollection.com.

Many classes fill quickly and under-enrolled classes are cancelled, so be sure to reserve your spot early.
