Arlington Man Arrested at Home After Crashing Car Into Parked Car: Police

Police say the man drove the heavily damaged car over 0.6 miles to his home.

ARLINGTON, MA — An Arlington man was arrested at his Old Colony Road home Sunday after police found his heavily damaged Honda Odyssey heavily damaged from crashing into another car on Old Mystic Street Sunday evening, according to police reports.

Michael Coffey, 49, was arrested on charges of operating under the influence of alcohol (first offense) and leaving the scene of property damage. Police say Coffee had crashed his vehicle into the other car and then left the scene traveling 0.6 miles in the damaged vehicle to his home.

According to the police report, a woman told police that her vehicle had been parked on Old Mystic Street and had been struck. Police found that the parked vehicle had suffered heavy rear and front end damage.

The police report indicates that officers found a trail of what appeared to be vehicle coolant from the crash scene on the route to Coffey's home. When Officers spoke to Coffey at his home, they observed him to be intoxicated and placed him under arrest.

Coffey denied medical attention from the Arlington Fire Department, and the owner of the other vehicle was not in the car at the time of the arrest.

Police said in the arrest report that Coffey also denied the breathalyzer test, and stated that he did not trust in the test and had done nothing wrong. He was later released on bail and issued a citation of operating under the influence and leaving the scene of a crash with property damage.
