Arlington Man ID'd As Victim Of Fatal Bike Collision

The bicyclist died Sunday after colliding head-on with another man on the Minuteman Bikeway.

ARLINGTON, MA – Authorities have identified the victim of a fatal collision between bicyclists on the Minuteman Bikeway in Lexington over the weekend. Cary Coovert, 71, of Arlington, died following the head-on collision Sunday afternoon.

The cyclists collided shortly after 2 p.m. about a mile from the Arlington town line. Police told WCVB it was a "freak accident."

Coovert and the other cyclist, a man in his 50s, were taken to Lahey Hospital & Medical Center, where Coovert later died. The other cyclist remained hospitalized Monday but is expected to survive.
