Arlington Man Indicted

An Arlington man has been indicted after allegedly stealing more than $330,000 from the government, according to the U.S. attorney's office.

Laurence C. Weber, 66, is facing one count of theft of government money.

Prosecutors said Weber continued to collect his late mother's monthly annuity payments from the Office of Personnel Management for about 19 years after her death in 1990. Weber allegedly failed to notify the office of his mother's death and then falsified verification forms to make the government believe that his late mother, the only legal recipient of the payments, was still alive.

If convicted, Weber faces up to 10 years in prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release and a $250,000 fine.

The Office of Eastern Operations, Office of Personnel Management, Office of the Inspector General and the U.S. Secret Service investigated the case.
