Arlington Names New Assistant Town Manager

The new assistant town manager will begin his duties on Sept. 12, and was selected from a pool of over 72 applicants.

ARLINGTON, MA — Arlington's current Health Compliance Officer and interim Director of Recreation has been named as the town's new assistant Town Manager, the town announced Thursday.

Town Manager Adam Chapdelaine appointed James Feeney as the town's new Assistant Town Manager, who is set to begin his duties on Monday. The Arlington Board of Selectmen authorized the creation of the Assistant Town Manager position when it approved a new contract for Chapdelaine during its meeting on Feb. 10.

“I am pleased Mr. Feeney accepted the appointment” said Chapdelaine in the town's announcement. “Arlington is a vibrant and active community and I am confident Jim will bring his endless energy and vast institutional knowledge to better serve the residents of Arlington.”

According to the town's announcement, Feeney will be responsible for fostering community relationships, strategizing on solution to a variety of customer service issues and capital project management. Additionally, Feeney's duties include oversight of Community Preservation Act-funded projects and serving as the town's Public Records Officer.

Feeney was selected from a pool of 72 applicants. He also servves as a lead facilitator at Boston University's Office of Distance Education, and held a position as the facilities manager for a human services agency.

He holds a Bachelor's degree in Health Science from Boston University, a Master's degree in Public Health in Epidemiology from Boston University, and also holds a Massachusetts Unrestricted Construction Supervisor's license.

“Arlington is a wonderful community and I am honored that I have been entrusted with these new responsibilities,” said Feeney in a statement. “I am grateful for the opportunity to continue working with residents and staff to ensure the delivery of the high quality services Arlington residents expect and deserve."
