Arlington Police Charge Man With Drunk Driving

A Lexington man was charged with drunk driving after crashing his car on Summer Street early Sunday morning.

ARLINGTON, MA - Arlington police charged a man with drunk driving following a crash on School Street early Sunday morning. Howard Tarlow, 67, of Lexington, was involved in a single-car crash on Summer Street near the Washington Street intersection just before 12:30 a.m., police said.

Responding officers found Tarlow standing next to his car, which was stopped on the yellow line with "significant" front-end damage, according to the police report. The car, a 2015 Cadillac Escalade, had knocked down two trees before coming to rest in the road.

Tarlow had a small scratch on his forehead and a small cut on his right hand. He told officers he was uninjured, according to police.

Officers said Tarlow appeared to be under the influence and had an odor of alcohol emanating from him when he spoke. He told police he was driving home from a charity event in Boston and got distracted when he went to answer his phone.

Tarlow was asked to complete the field sobriety tests. He registered a BAC of 0.12 and failed subsequent attempts to register a measurement, the police report stated. Officers placed him under arrest and charged him with operating under the influence of alcohol (first offense), impeding the operation of motor vehicle, speeding and negligent operation of a motor vehicle.
