Arlington Police, Fire Urge Residents to Prepare for Hurricane Matthew
The fire department says that the hurricane is expected to reach Arlington Sunday. Here is some important information to keep on hand.

ARLINGTON, MA — With Hurricane Matthew's possible arrival threatening the New England area, the Arlington police and fire departments are urging residents to take preparation measures.
The Arlington Fire Department and Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency recommends the following actions be taken in order to minimize damage from the possible storm:
- Prior to a storm, outdoor objects such as trash barrels, lawn furniture, and other items that can be displaced by high winds should be secured or brought inside.
- In highly flood-prone areas, keep materials on hand like sandbags, plywood, plastic sheeting, plastic garbage bags, lumber, shovels, work boots and gloves.
- Make sure phones and other important devices are charged.
- Check in on neighbors who may need assistance.
The Arlington Police and Fire Departments recommend that you keep the following phone numbers on hand.

- For life-threatening emergencies, call 911
- For downed electrical wires, call 911 and Eversource at 1-800-592-2000.
- For non-life threatening emergencies, such as flooding, call Community Safety dispatch at 781-643-1212.
- For downed tree limbs, call Public Works dispatch at 781-316-3301.
- Power outages report directly to NSTAR at 1-800-592-2000.
