Arlington Redevelopment Board To Discuss Symmes - Not Brigham - at Tonight's Meeting

Last week, the Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) approved a compromise on the proposed five-story Brigham buiding at 30-50 Mill street in Arlington, but the developers will have to wait to hear their project discussed at the Arlington Redevelopment Board.

Tonight's meeting will discuss the former Symmes Hospital property, but is continuing the discussion on the Brigham building to a later date.

"Ordinarily, when an applicant has to go before the ZBA before coming before the ARB, they wouldn't submit their special permit application to the ARB until they were all done with the ZBA," said Chris Loreti, the chairman of the ARB.

"In this case, the applicant submitted to both boards simultaneously, but it was understood we wouldn't really start until the ZBA was finished. While it sounds like they are almost done with the ZBA, a written decision still has to be crafted, the ZBA has to approve it, and it has to be filed with the Town Clerk. Based on what the ZBA approved, they'll need to change their plans and the ARB hasn't received the revised plans. We'll be continuing Monday because they won't be ready for us, and we won't be ready for them," Loreti said.
