Arlington Restaurant’s Alcohol License Suspended for 1 Month

The state has suspended Kathmandu Spice’s alcohol license for one month.

The state’s Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission suspended the license from Wednesday, July 9, to Thursday, Aug. 7, according to a notice to the Arlington Board of Selectmen.

The license was suspended because, during an April check, investigators found that the restaurant has been buying its alcohol from Ball Square Liquors in Somerville, which isn’t an authorized wholesaler.

Kathmandu Spice, at 166 Mass. Ave. in East Arlington, serves Nepalese and Indian food. It’s owned by Sheela Manandhar.

The restaurant also did not have the penalties of underage purchasing posted. It received a warning for this infraction.

In 2012, Kathmandu Spice was one of four restaurants caught serving to underage patrons in an undercover operation by Arlington Police. At that time, the restaurant had its alcohol license suspended for three days.

During the suspension, Kathmandu Spice will be allowed to remain open – it just won’t be allowed to serve alcohol.
