Girls Hockey
The 2010-2011 season has been, for the most part, a rousing success for the Arlington High School girls hockey team. They’ve already managed to clinch a spot in the MIAA state tournament and had been playing some very solid hockey as of late. They hit a bit of a bump in the road this past week, though, going 0-2 and getting outscored by a combined score of 7-1.

In what was a very heated battle, the Lady Cougars pulled off the upset and knocked off AHS by a 3-0 score. Wednesday night the Lady Ponders played host to the 12th ranked Acton-Boxborough Colonials. A-B proved to be too strong for Arlington and beat the home team 4-1 for their ninth straight victory.
Boys Hockey
The Arlington High boys hockey team bounced back from an 8-2 shellacking at the hands of Acton-Boxborough last Saturday night by routing Everett High School on the road Monday night. The Spy Ponders were paced by a hat trick from senior Marty Gorman on the way to a 9-1 victory.
ACHS
Girls Hockey
The Arlington Catholic girls hockey team was able to shake off some recent struggles to have a strong week, going 2-0 and outscoring their two opponents by a combined score of 10-1. The Lady Cougars were paced by senior captain Alyssa Sullivan’s two-goal performance. Junior Natalie Flynn had the other AC tally.
They followed that win up with a dominating win over league rival Archbishop Williams, knocking the Bishops off by a score of 7-1. Once again Sullivan led the way, scoring her first hat trick of the season. Maddy Roberts also added two goals for AC. The two wins improve the Cougars to 6-6-2 as they inch closed to qualifying for the playoffs.
Boys Hockey
After a disappointing tie to Matignon a week ago, the Cougars bounced back with a tie and a win this past week, which was good enough to qualify them for the Division 1 state tournament.
Monday the boys were on the road to take on a fellow top-25 team in St. John’s of Shrewsbury. The Cougars were able to steal the win away from the Pioneers thanks to a last minute goal from senior defenseman Matthew Cocuzzo. The strike was the first of Cocuzzo’s varsity career. They were on the road again Wednesday night, squaring off with CCL rival St. Bernards.
The Cougars completed the season sweep of the Saints with an 8-1 win, which clinched their spot in the state tourney. Captain Dan Graham continued his strong season scoring three goals and adding two helpers on the night.
Indoor Track
The Arlington Catholic indoor track team competed in the Tri-County League meet Thursday afternoon at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston. The Cougars had a very strong showing as they finished third place in the meet, behind only Bishop Fenwick and Cardinal Spellman.
Girls Basketball
The Lady Cougars hoops team continued their impressive season with a dominating win over Austin Prep Tuesday night at the AC gym. Catholic routed their league rivals, winning by a final score of 67-22. The lopsided victory improves AC to 11-5 on the season.
Boys Basketball
The Arlington Catholic boys basketball team kept their post-season hopes alive with a win over CCL rival Austin Prep Tuesday night on the road. The Cougars improved to 8-8 on the season with their 54-42 victory over Prep. Aaron Swenson, who dropped 16 points in the game, and Lorenzo Papa, who added 14 points, paced them offensively.
