Arlington Town Manager Releases Proposed Fiscal 2018 Budget

The proposed fiscal year 2018 budget reflects a 2.68 percent increase.

ARLINGTON, MA — Arlington Town Manager Adam Chapdelaine has submitted his recommended budget for the 2018 Fiscal Year.

Chapdelaine's newly-proposed $151.4 Million budget represents an increase of 2.68 percent from the current fiscal year (FY 2017). The budget includes a proposal to withdraw $360,107 from the Override Stabilization Fund, marking the first year a withdrawal is proposed since the override was passed in 2011.

The Arlington Advocate reports that according to Chapdelaine, this is also the first time since the override that revenue does not exceed expenses, and the town can not afford to save money for future years.

The budget includes a 6.57 percent increase in the total school budget, with a seven percent increase to special education. The budget for municipal departments increased 3.1 percent The town's total capital budget including debt shows a 2.6 percent decrease from $11.2 million to 10.9 million.
