Arlington Town Meeting: What You Need to Know

Arlington Town Meeting begins Monday. Here is some information you should know heading in.

ARLINGTON, MA—One of Arlington's most important political processes kicks off this week, as Town Meeting is set to begin Monday. Here's what you need to know.

SCHEDULE:

Town Meeting begins April 25 at 8 p.m. and will continue until all warrant articles are voted upon. According to the Town Website, sessions end at approximately 11 p.m. in most cases.

Sessions are held on Mondays and Wednesdays until all articles are voted upon.

Town Meeting is open to the public and will be held at the Town Hall auditorium. However, public attendees must sit in the balcony area of the auditorium. Town Meeting members will vote on articles.

There are 60 articles on the Annual Town Meeting warrant, with 11 Zoning articles taking center stage in the beginning of Town Meeting. Five of the proposed zoning articles were submitted by the Redevelopment board, with the other six submitted by citizen's petition.

Article 18, which seeks to expand the class of protected citizens to cover gender identity and expression, has been submitted by the Arlington Human Rights Commission.
