Arlington's True Story Theater Receives Federal Grant
The National Endowment for the Arts awarded the theater the "Our Town" grant to fund a two-year project.

ARLINGTON, MA – Arlington's True Story Theater has been awarded $25,000 by the National Endowment for the Arts. The "Our Town" grant will fund a two-year project called "The Listening Project: strengthening civic dialogue through storytelling theater,” according to the Arlington Advocate.
In awarding its grant, the NEA wrote that True Story Theater's performances will tackle a range of topics impacting the Arlington area, such as opioid addiction, arts and cultural planning and municipal issues. The project will "utilize storytelling as an innovative way to generate empathy and facilitate dialogue among residents, informing community planning and municipal processes," according to the NEA.
The theater will partner with the Human Rights Commission, Disability Commission, LGBTQ+ Rainbow Commission, Arlington Police Department, Planning and Community Development and other organizations to address these subjects. It will perform three shows for each partner over the next two years, the Advocate reported.
