Courage and the commitment to overcome adversity are the hallmarks of a solid fitness plan. On Saturday, February 20, 2016, from 5: 00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Swet Studio™ of Boston, https://www.swetstudio.com, located at 480 Tremont Street in the South End, is proud to hostQwear, qwearfashion.com, for their Sport Style Event. Founded in 2011 by Sonny Oram, Qwear celebrates the styles of people who typically experience fashion from a different vantage point, and strives to fill the vacuum created by mainstream media as to what constitutes “beauty.”
Working from outside the box is nothing new for Swet Studio™, Boston’s LGBTQ/Straight Ally Fitness Center. As part of it’s launch, which happened to coincide with Fashion Week this past fall, the studio held Boston’s first ever “Alternative Fitness Fashion Show.”
Swet Studio™, https://www.swetstudio.com, is the brainchild of the Bulgarian born fitness guru, Silviya Mihaylova. Upon entering the health club, one encounters a chic industrial space, with an open, airy feel. Metal and wood meet beneath a soaring, purple cathedral ceiling. The fitness studio’s smiling staff, personal trainers, and instructors appear genuinely to enjoy what they do and devoted to providing a fun and non-intimidating group workout experience in one of the best new fitness studio’s in Boston. Mihaylova describes the health club as being an alternative to the average fitness and dance studio:
“A few years ago, I wanted a place where my friends and I could go to take classes, and when I looked around the Boston landscape, I could not find anything like what we have developed in the South End.”
The Qwear event will feature a discussion spearheaded by Cei Lambert, the Patient Advocate for Fenway Health’s Trans Health Program. The talk will provide insight into fitness issues faced by trans and nonbinary people, including expectations and strategies. Fenway works to ensure access to high-quality, informed care unique to persons with diverse gender expressions and identities. Prior to Fenway, Cei worked as the Diversity Projects Manager for Campus Recreation at Colorado State University, where he helped initiate the construction of gender-inclusive locker rooms and integrate LGBTQ inclusion policy into the department strategic plan. As Lambert explains: “Different gyms have different styles, and some are more social than others. We’ve all heard the stories of trans folks being confronted in the locker room, and these are real challenges that people are working hard to solve.”

Explains Oram, www.qwearfashion.com:
“Finding joy and comfort in fitness can be a challenge for anyone, but it’s even more difficult for the trans and nonbinary community. Most gyms don’t welcome us, and working out is hard when it sometimes feels like our bodies are against us.”

Swet Studio™ of Boston, https://www.instagram.com/swetstudio/, has the motto,“Get Fit, Stay Social.” It takes a modern approach to gender neutrality. With a wide array of a.m. and p.m. group aerial, fitness, and dance classes for all genders, and all-inclusive, all-gender changing rooms and bathrooms, says Mihaylova, “Everyone is welcome.”
In addition to the talk on trans fitness, the #QWEAR evening will feature pole dancing, darts, a photo booth, and appetizers, with a sport style theme in which attendees are encouraged to wear their best active wear inspired outfit, while beats will be pumped out by Beatz by Djkstar Natural Vybezent. Qwear’s crew will be walking around snapping their favorite outfits shots to feature on their Instagam.
