Arlington-Belmont Crew Races at Textile River Regatta

Arlington-Belmont Crew girls take gold at Lowell Regatta

The Arlington-Belmont Crew team gathered on the shores of the Merrimack River in Lowell last Sunday to compete in the 33rd annual Textile River Regatta. More than 500 boats competed in the 3.75 mile (6 km) race in categories from novice to veteran. Arlington-Belmont Crew had 13 entries.

The varsity boys 8+ (eight with coxswain) A-boat boat finished 11th out of 57 in 20:28, just over a minute behind the leader. Coxed by Sarah Venuti from Arlington, the boat was  rowed by Andrew Friedman, Roddy Pratt, Nathan Canada, Harry Rosner, Brian O’Neill, Omar Malik and Damien Murray from Arlington, and Ryan Cleary from Belmont. The varsity boys B-boat finished 38th with a time of 22:23. Led by coxswain Jessi Kirchner from Arlington, the boat was rowed by Kevin Wang, Zach Guion, Liam Lanigan, John O’Brien, Sam Magill-Dohan and Jacy Loshin from Arlington, and Nick Osborn and Sam Pratt from Belmont.

The varsity boys 4+ A-boat, with the crew of Lena Schermer coxing and Ian Gilchrist rowing from Belmont, and Mike Tripp, Max Halliday and Marcus Dardompre rowing from Arlington, finished in 23:35 for 22nd place out of 37 boats. The varsity boys 4+ B-boat finished in 25:17 in 28th place with Lena Giguere coxing, and Mitch Kwok, Ben Goebel and Jonathan Daniels rowing from Arlington, as well as Ben Joaquin rowing from Belmont.

The varsity girls 8+ A-boat third boat finished 14th out of 45 boats, with a time of 23:23, two minutes off the pace. Rowing were Laurie VanBenschoten, Annalise Routenberg, Katelyn Hamilton, Megan McMenimen, Cady Trvalik, Sara Hamilton and Julia Blass from Arlington, and Kalyani Grad-Kaimal and coxswain Hannah Pratt of Belmont. The varsity girls 8+ B-boat finished in 27th place with a time of 24:48. Coxed by Anna Ferlanti of Arlington, the boat was rowed by Kate Cornell, Kirsten Gronlund, Meg Riley and Anja Pajevic of Arlington, and Maya Carlson, Marisa Puma, Sarah Kolenbrander and Meg Poterba of Belmont.

The varsity girls 4+ lightweight boat took first out of three boats with a time of 25:30.219.  Emily Seibring, Catherine Tiffany, Catherine Jacob-Dolan, Virginia White and coxswain Ellie Cayer are all from Arlington.

Nicole Merullo from Belmont coxed the varsity girls 4+ boat to a 34th place finish out of 41 in 27:59. She was assisted by Alice Lee and Alex Hempel, rowing from Arlington, and Marisa Puma and Olivia Fan, rowing from Belmont. 

The novice boys 8+ A-boat placed fifth out of 34 with a time of 22:49, just over a minute off the lead. The boat was led by Coxswain Brenna Sorkin from Belmont, and rowed by Dan Cook and Eryk Dobrushkin from Arlington, and Ekim Otucu, Trey Butler, David Babikian, Alex Gharibian, Daniel Quinn and Trevor Corning from Belmont. The B-boat placed ninth with a time of 24:02. Led by Emma Curtis of Arlington, the boat was rowed by Liam McDonough, Steven Trvalik, JD Tiffany, Louis Pratt and Brendan Mooney from Arlington, and Charlie Kohl, Dylan Ryan and Andrew Giorgio of Belmont.

The novice boys C-boat, coxed by Ian Bernardin from Arlington, finished 28th with a time of 26:28. Rowers in that boat included Anthony DiFranco, Adrian Tanner, Connor Giallongo, Ryan Sass, Liam Cushman and Rafi Wagner from Belmont, and Nick Pagliasotti and Adam Banzon from Arlington.

The novice Girls 8+ A-boat finish 16th out of 30 with a time of 27:18, coxed by Andrea Abanto from Arlington, and rowed by Olivia Cronin, Callie Abouzeid, Catherine Tang and Eva Joll from Belmont, as well as Anna VanBenschoten, Bridget Kiejna, Paige Riley and Alice Liu from Arlington. The novice Girls B-boat finished 26th with a time of 29:25. Led by Kayla Murphy of Arlington, the boat was rowed by Emma Murach, Sarah Daum, Tali Gorokhovsky, Annessia Jimenez, Susannah Benn, Alex McElhoe and Betsey Donham of Arlington, and Nyssa Stachowicz of Belmont.

AB Crew competes next at the New Hampshire Championships in Pembroke, N.H., on Sunday, Oct. 14.
