New Youth Sports Court In Arlington Getting Support From Home-Grown Athletes

Two professional athletes are funding the project through their respective foundations.

ARLINGTON, MA — Two professional athletes are giving back to their hometown through the Arlington Boys and Girls Club Court Initiative.

The $70,000 renovation project is funded by foundations by NBA player Pat Connaughton and Major League Soccer player Miles Robinson, who were both born and raised in Arlington. The outdoor court at the facility on 60 Pond Lane will get its first major refurbishment in 40 years which will optimize it for basketball and futsal, a smaller and faster-paced version of soccer. According to the Arlington Boys and Girls Club, features of the court include a surface and chain-link fence, along with brand new futsal goals and basketball hoops. Overlooking the new court will be a large mural created by local artist Megan Barnes and will feature multiple images of both Connaughton and Robinson meant to serve as inspiration to all young athletes who admire it.

Connaughton was drafted in the second round of the 2018 NBA Draft out of the University of Notre Dame by the Brooklyn Nets before being traded to the Portland Trail Blazers that same day. He is most known for his time on the Milwaukee Bucks, where was part of a championship-winning team in 2021. He was traded from the Bucks to the Charlotte Hornets this past offseason.

Robinson was drafted second overall by Atlanta United in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft. After an accolade-ridden first six years, he joined FC Cincinnati in 2024.“

“While many athletes pursue charitable initiatives individually, Pat and Miles came together on this project with the hope that it can serve as an example of what is possible when athletes collaborate around a shared purpose,” the Arlington Boys and Girls Club said in a statement. “Both foundations focus on creating initiatives that give youth the spaces, resources, and inspiration they need to pursue their goals whether on the court, on the field, or in their communities.”
