Arlington-Belmont Crew Team Rows Hard at the Lowell Invitational Regatta

Race results for the Arlington Belmont crew club at the Lowell Invitational Regatta, May 11-12th.

The Arlington Belmont crew team rowed mightily May 11-12 during two days of intermittent rain showers at the Lowell Invitational Regatta on the Merrimack River. Races were run in 1.5 K heats, with the top six boats in classes with multiple heats moving on to semis and finals on Sunday. The AB club took 2 golds, a silver, and a bronze medal over the weekend.

The boy’s varsity 8, coxed by Sarah Venuti (A) and rowed by Max Halliday (A), Zach Guion (A), Ekim Otucu (B), Dan Cook (A), Nathan Canada (A), Marcus Dardompre (A), Omar Malik (A), and Brian O'Neill (A) took 3rd in their heat, beating Duxbury and Bedford, but did not get to advance on Sunday.

The girl’s varsity 8, coxed by Anna Ferlanti (A) and rowed by Laurie VanBenschoten (A), Julia Cydzik (B), Maddie Morrissette (A), Annalise Routenberg (A), Sarah Osborn (B), Katelyn Hamilton (A), Catherine Tiffany (A) and Catherine Jacob-Dolan (A), took first place in their heat against Narragansett, Central, GL, Lexington High, and Bedford, with a great time of 5:00 flat. Unfortunately the club could not race the boat again at finals due to overlapping line-ups, so the decision was made to scratch it on Sunday.

The boy’ second varsity 8, coxed by Jessi Kirchner (A) and rowed by Guy Parsons (B), Ian Gilchrist (B), Nick Osborn (B), John O'Brien (A), Mike Tripp (A), Evan Duffy (A), Mitchell Kwok (A) and Trevor Brown (A) took third in their heat, not advancing to another race.

The girl’s second varsity 8, coxed by Daphne Schermer (B) and rowed by Maya Carlson (B), Anna VanBenschoten (A), Lizzy Thidemann (B), Alexa Bassler (B), Molly Minniti (A), Sarah Kolenbrander (B), Olivia Fan (B) and Alli Holt (A), placed 3rd in their heat, unfortunately not qualifying to go on.

The boy’s varsity 4, coxed by Lena Schermer (B) and rowed by Max Halliday (A), Brian O'Neill (A), Nathan Canada (A), and Marcus Dardompre (A) took second place in their heat and went to earn third place in the semi-finals.

The girl’s varsity four, coxed by Ellie Cayer (A) and rowed by Laurie VanBenschoten (A), Julia Cydzik (B), Maddie Morrissette (A) and Annalise Routenberg (A) took second place in their heat, edged out only by Bromfield, and went on to place second in the semis and fourth in the finals, just missing a medal.

The girl’s second varsity four, coxed by Hannah Pratt (B) and rowed by Megan McMenimen (A), Kate Cornell (A), Cady Trvalik (A) and Meg Poterba (B) won second place in their heat, and then took the gold medal in the finals, beating Milton, Riverfront, CRI, Concord and Lexington.

The club also entered lightweight boats in this regatta—to qualify, the rowers’ weights must be below 150 pounds.

The boy’s lightweight varsity 8 coxed by Emily Savarese (B) and rowed by Andrew Friedman (A), Roddy Pratt (A), Harry Rosner (A), Kevin Wang (A), Ekim Otucu (B), Jacy Loshin (A), Ben Goebel (A) and Jonathan Daniels (A) was called off the water on Saturday as lightning warnings ended the racing for the day. They returned determined on Sunday, placing third and winning bronze in their class.

The girl’s lightweight varsity 8 coxed by Nicole Merullo (B) and rowed by Catherine Tiffany (A), Katelyn Hamilton (A), Emily Seibring (A), Abby Burden (A), Catherine Jacob-Dolan (A), Sara Hamilton (A), Lizzie Ferrante (B) and Julia Blass (A) were not phased by the lightning delay and had a great day on Sunday, winning their heat and taking the silver medal in the finals.

The boy’s lightweight varsity 4, coxed by Brenna Sorkin (B) and rowed by Andrew Friedman (A), Roddy Pratt (A), Harry Rosner (A) and Kevin Wang (A), took second in their heat and won gold in the finals with a very fast time of 4:54, beating CRI-A, Lexington, Concord A, CRI-B and Bedford.

The girl’s lightweight varsity 4, coxed by Andrea Abanto (A) and rowed by Sarah Osborn (B), Alli Holt (A), Olivia Cronin (B) and Virginia White (A) rowed hard in their heat, but could not match the competition.

The novice boats raced hard. The boy’s novice 8, coxed by Sam Magill-Dohan (A) and rowed by Eryk Dobrushkin (A), Alex Gharibian (B), Adrian Tanner (B), Louis Pratt (A), Eli Workman (B), Ryan Sass (B), Brendan Mooney (A), and JD Tiffany (A) placed third in their heat on Saturday, and went on miss the finals on Sunday by coming in just 3 seconds behind Bromfield in the semi.

The girl’s novice 8, coxed by Lizzy Conover-Prentiss (B) and rowed by Bridget Kiejna (A), Linnea Berryman (A), Callie Abouzeid (B), Alice Liu (A), Ines Benvamina (B), Catherine Malatesta (A), Eva Joll (B) and Della Copes-Finke (B) placed second in their heat, and fourth in the semis.

The boy’s second novice 8 coxed by coxswain Kaavya Senthil (A) and rowed by Dylan Ryan (B), Rory LIddy (A), Jack Merullo (B), Adam Nahn (A), Alp Kuleli (A), Aidan Barnes (B), Steven Chen (B) and Ian Bernardin (A), placed second in their heat, and went on to finish fourth in the finals.

The girl’s second novice 8 coxed by Samantha Dearing (A) and rowed by Paula McMenimen (A), Betsey Donham (A), Tali Gorokhosky (A), Susannah Benn (A),Sarah Daum (A), Olga Brevnova (B),

Paige Riley (A) and Annessia Jimenez (A) took third place in their heat.

The boy’s novice 4 was unfortunately disqualified from their heat for straying into another lane. They finished with a very good time and might have placed.

The girl’s novice 4 coxed by Laura Schoonmaker (A) and rowed by Alex McElhoe (A), Kate Rosner (A) Bridget Keijna (A) and Linnea Berryman (A) placed third in their heat.
