Arlington Belmont crew team's great race!

Arlington-Belmont crew team's great win on the Mystic River.

The Arlington-Belmont crew team is off to strong start this year. On April 20th, after a tense day that shut down all rowing activities in the area, the AB boats dominated the 1400 meter sprints against Malden, Somerville, Medford and Mystic Valley High Schools on the Mystic River. All heats that day were won by Arlington-Belmont boats.

The boy’s varsity 8+ (eight rowers with coxswain), coxed by Emily Savarese from Belmont and rowed by Max Halliday, Zach Guion, Omar Malik, Marcus Dardompre, Dan Cook, Mike Tripp Brian O'Neill from Arlington, and Ekim Otucu from Belmont won with a time of 4:32, 18 seconds ahead of Medford.

The girl’s varsity 8+, coxed by Ellie Cayer from Arlington and rowed by Laurie VanBenschoten, Julia Cydzik, Megan McMenimen, Katelyn Hamilton, Annalise Routenberg (Arlington), and Meg Poterba, Lizzie Ferrante and Julia Blass (Belmont) won with a time of 5:29; followed by AB’s second girl’s varsity 8+ (coxed by Andrea Abanto from Arlington and rowed by Olivia Cronin, Sarah Osborn, Alexa Bassler, Aurelle Albano, and Rainer Matzko -Belmont, Anna VanBenschoten, Abby Burden and Kate Cornell -Arlington) with a time of 5:31, well ahead of Medford and Malden.

The boy’s second varsity 8+ (Cox: Sarah Venuti, Arlington, Rowers: Guy Parsons, Steven Trvalik, Liam McDonough, Nathan Canada, Evan Duffy, Mitchell Kwok, Neal Mulani -Arlington, Guy Parsons, Daniel Quinn, -Belmont) won the finals with a time of 4:47, ahead of Medford’s first varsity 8.

The boy’s varsity 4+ (Cox: Brenna Sorkin, Belmont Rowers: Andrew Friedman, Roddy Pratt, Harry Rosner and Kevin Wang, Arlington), beat 3 other boats with a time of 4:47, and won the finals with a time of 4:55.

The girl’s varsity 4+, coxed by Hannah Pratt from Belmont and rowed by Laurie VanBenschoten, Annalise Routenberg from Arlington and Julia Cydzik and Meg Poterba from Belmont won their race with a time of 5:32.

The boy’s second varsity 4+ (Cox: Emily Savarese, Belmont  Rowers: Guy Parsons, Ben Goebel and Trevor Brown, Arlington, Ian Gilchrist, Belmont) won against 3 other boats with a time of 5:18.

The boy’s novice 8+ rowed twice, coxed by Kim Paquette (Belmont), and crewed by Eli Workman, Steven Chen, Jack Merullo, Aidan Barnes, Brian Liddell and Ryan Sass (Belmont) and Brendan Mooney and Eli Rubens (Arlington), winning both races, with a top time of 5:14.

The girl’s novice 8+ (Cox: Laura Schoonmaker -Arlington Rowers: Eva Jolli, Alice Liu, Paula McMenimen, Catherine Malatesta, Betsey Donham -Arlington, Lexi Zoffreo, Ines Benyamina, Paige/Emma L. - Belmont) won with a time of 5:45, 7 seconds ahead of Malden.  

The boy’s novice 4+ was coxed by Kaavya Senthill (Arlington), with Eryk Dobrushkin, Louis Pratt (Arlington), Alex Gharibian , Adrian Tanner (Belmont) rowing; and won with a time of 5:13. Placing second in that heat with a time of 5:40 was the second AB boy’s novice 4+, coxed by Sam Magill-Dohan (Arlington) and rowed by Brendan Mooney, Eli Rubens (Arlington), Connor Giallongo , and Eli Workman (Belmont). The boy’s first novice 4+ went on to win the final with a time of 5:19, 3 seconds ahead of Malden.

The girl’s novice 4+ (Cox: Lizzy Conover-Prent -Belmont Rowers: Bridget Kiejna, Linnea Berryman -Arlington, Jess Keniston and Kate Rosner-Belmont) won with a time of 6:05, 31 seconds ahead of Malden.

The wins were gratifying to the hard working team after a disappointing day against Weston-Wayland and Hingham the weekend before.
