Construction Begins in Arlington Center

Road construction near the corner of Swan Place and Massachusetts Avenue began today and is expected to continue for the next eight to 10 weeks, according to the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority.

Crews will be working to replace a short section of a 56-inch steel pipeline in order to install a new 54-inch valve along with related smaller pipe interconnections and structures, according to officials. The project is the third phase of the authority's Section 28 Pipeline to Brattle Court Pumping Station Project.

Construction will take place in the eastbound lanes of Massachusetts Avenue during weekday, daytime hours. All nearby businesses will remain open and accessible throughout the project, according to officials. However, there will be travel lane and parking restrictions, as well as a narrower sidewalks.

The site will be temporarily restored before the winter, with final restorations, involving landscaping and new sidewalks, set for spring. More information about the project is available on the authority's portion of the town's website.
