Does Arlington Need Another Swimming Pool?

ARLINGTON, MA — The pool at the Arlington Boys and Girls club has been where many Arlingtonians have learned to swim and has served the community for many years, but some residents say the demand for a pool is not met by the ABGC pool alone. In an online petition, a group of residents are aiming to garner support to include a pool in the Arlington High School Building Committee's feasibility study.

"The recent approval of renovation for Arlington High School presents a unique opportunity to have a community pool built as part of this process," reads the petition."We believe that there is significant interest in a pool in Arlington that would serve people of all ages in the entire community: lessons, competition, recreation, and therapy."

The petition was started by a group of Arlingtonians identifying themselves as A-Pool, who say they are passionate about facilitating the construction of a new community aquatics facility.

The group feels many in town are in favor of a new facility. The petition currently has 286 signatures against its 1,000-signature goal, and several residents have commented on the petition indicating their support for the pool.

"We are a such a great town, and we really need a pool. Lexington and Belmont have them, feels like we should too," wrote an anonymous commenter."It's too expensive to go swim at Belmont. It feels worth it to build a pool for Arlington."
