Hancock Church of Lexington is pleased to announce the inaugural season of its new Concert Series. The Series features a variety of choral and instrumental ensembles from, or connected to, Hancock Church who perform a huge range of music. Included this season are the Joyful Noyse Early Music Ensemble, the Lyricum Woodwind Quintet, the Chancel Choir and Orchestra, and the Handbell Ensembles. Admission to all concerts is free, with a freewill donation to be received at selected events to support the music program of the church.
The Series launches on Sunday, Nov. 27th with Gloria in Excelsis Deo—a concert of music for the Christmas season performed by the Joyful Noyse Early Music Ensemble. The concert will feature Vivaldi’s “other” Gloria, as well as a Gloria by Giovanni Maria Ruggieri, and works by Antonio Caldara. The program will feature the concertmaster of the Lexington Symphony, Elizabeth Whitfield, as well as their principal violist Lisa Kempskie. A Joyful Noyse consists of professional and amateur singers and instrumentalists dedicated to the performance of 16th-18th century liturgical music. The concert will be held on Sunday, Nov. 27th at 3:00 p.m. at Hancock United Church, 1912 Massachusetts Avenue in Lexington. Admission is free, with a $10 free will donation at the door.
The Series will continue with concerts by the Chancel Choir and Orchestra performing Conrad Susa’s Carols and Lullabies from the Southwest, and Handel’s Wedding Cantata Sing Unto God; with the Lyricum Quintet’s concert featuring Gordan Jacob’s Sextet; the Handbell Ensembles’ Christmas and Patriot’s Day concerts; and two additional concerts by A Joyful Noyse. A special event this year will be the annual Lexington Choral Festival, featuring choirs from many area churches and synagogues. A full line up can be found on the church’s website, www.hancockchurch.org.
