Article of Hope

An Article of Hope is an award-winning film about the remarkable true story of Colonel Ilan Ramon, Israel's first astronaut and the tiny Torah he carried into space.

The documentary tells the Torah‚s journey, from the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp to the day it was celebrated aboard the space shuttle Columbia. It is a unique story that interweaves the heights of scientific achievement, the depths of a nation‚s cruelty, the private grief of a boy who came of age during the Holocaust, and the public mourning of many nations in the aftermath of the Columbia shuttle disaster. Combining historical and ethical inquiry, the film reaches across faiths and nationalities to tell a truly human story.

An Article of Hope, a West Street Productions and Herzog & Company film, is part of  the Ryna Greenbaum JCC Center for the Arts. The showing is co-sponsored by the Consulate General of Israel to New England, the Jewish Community Relations Council and the New England Holocaust Memorial. Post-show discussion with Dan Cohen, the film's director.
