Shakespeare in the Park - Measure for Measure

The stage is set for Shakespeare in the Park – Sunday, August 7 at 5:00pm at Robbins Farm Park – where the New England Shakespeare Festival will present Shakespeare’s dark comedy, “Measure for Measure,” on the grassy slopes of Robbins Farm Park in Arlington.

Spectators are encouraged to come early, bring a picnic, and enjoy free, summer Shakespeare against the backdrop of one of Arlington’s most beautiful park settings.  The sponsors will sell desserts and beverages to supplement your picnic baskets.

Measure for Measure is Shakespeare's sublimely dark comedy, a classic morality tale on the themes of human frailty, sin and hypocrisy. The play blends comic contradictions and ambiguities with biting social commentary. Join us for this humorous exploration of blind justice, mercy, and the tension between good and evil that resides within every human soul.

New England Shakespeare is a professional non-profit theater company that tours throughout the region.  With the philosophy that Shakespeare is for everyone, they perform in the original Elizabethan style, staging shows that are exciting, engaging, and stimulating, while remaining true to both the letter of the texts and the wonderfully unruly spirit of the Bard’s earliest performances.

Shakespeare in the Park is co-sponsored by the Arlington Center for the Arts, The Friends of Spy Pond Park, The Friends of Robbins Farm Park, and The Friends of Menotomy Rocks Park.

This summer’s two Shakespeare performances are made possible in part by a grant from the Arlington Cultural Council, a local agency, which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency, as well as through the generous contributions of dozens of individual and community donors to Shakespeare in the Park.
