Veterans’ Day Parade

The annual Veterans’ Day Parade will be held on Friday, November 11, 2011. The parade begins at the Walgreens parking lot on Massachusetts Avenue in East Arlington at 10:30 a.m. and proceeds along Mass. Ave. to Monument Square in Arlington center by the fire station. Ceremonies will be held at Monument Square to honor all those from Arlington who served their country in its’ time of greatest need.

 

Attending will be Gold Star Parents: Joe & Joan Connor whose son John was “Killed in Action” in Panama and Mildred Hurd whose son David Williams was “Killed in Action” in Vietnam. Also, the Combined Veterans’ Council of Arlington Color Guard, the Police and Fire Honor Guards, state and local politicians, The Menotomy Minutemen, and veterans representing the American Legion Post 39, The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1775, The Disabled American Veterans Chapter 49, and the Marine Corps League – Lt. Stanley Benner Detachment.

The anniversary of the 11th  hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918 when the Treaty of Versailles was signed marking the end of World War I will be remembered on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of the 11th year with 11 long blasts from Fire Department in Arlington Center. Grand Marshal for this year’s parade will be retired Arlington Police Office and Navy veteran Dennis Corbett.
