ICYMI: Two Injured after Runaway Van Crashes Into Arlington Home

UPDATED: A runaway van crashed into the front steps of a home on Sunset Road in Arlington.

ARLINGTON, MA — A runaway van crashed into the front steps of a home on Sunset road in Arlington, injuring two people.

Arlington police say that the driver had failed to put the Ford Econoline chimney service van in park on Aerial Street, causing it to roll 100 yards down a hill before crashing into a brick stairway of 134 Sunset Road. A New York man, 45, was cited for failing to secure a motor vehicle when exiting.

One resident was inside at the time of the crash.

Police say that as the vehicle began to roll, the driver attempted to jump back into the vehicle, but was knocked down. The passenger of the van was still inside the vehicle and grabbed the wheel, which resultedin it crashing into the home.

The driver and passenger were transported to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries. There was no structural damage to the home, but the van was towed from the scene with "substantial front-end damage."
