Kellogg Recalls Some Eggo Brand Waffles Due to Listeria Risk

Kellogg Company is voluntarily recalling approximately 10,000 cases of Kellogg’s Eggo Nutri-Grain Whole Wheat Waffles because they have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

No other Eggo products are affected by the recall, which includes products sold in 25 states, including Massachusetts. The others: Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Maryland, Maine, Michigan Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Vermont, Wisconsin and Wyoming.

No one has been sickened by the waffles, the Michigan-based food manufacturer said, but Listeria can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.

Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

The affected waffles are in a 10-count, 12.3-ounce package with a “best if used by date” of Nov. 21-22, 2017. The UPC Code is 38000 40370.
